Uvalde is Uvalde County seat. Uvalde has over fifteen thousand
citizens. The Uvalde school system is provided by Uvalde Consolidated ISD.
Uvalde was home to former US Vice President John Garner. Uvalde got its
name in respect for Juan de Uvalde from Spain. Uvalde stands on the intersect
of US Highway 90 and 83. Many birders visit Uvalde. The bird sanctuary at
Cook's Slough in Uvalde is popular with Uvalde birders. Leases for hunting
are available in Uvalde for deer, hogs and turkey. The open air theatre
in Uvalde has dance performances from Sahawe Indians.
