Snyder is found in Scurry County. Snyder is about ninety miles from Lubbock. Snyder was given this name in respect of trading post owner Peter Snyder in 1907. Snyder was established on a tributary of the Colorado River called Deep Creek. Snyder saw an influx of people when oil was found in Snyder in 1948. The Snyder well produced five hundred barrels a day and brought wealth to Snyder. Snyder has over eleven thousand residents. Schools in Snyder are provided by the Snyder ISD. Snyder is home to the community college of Western Texas.
