Perryton is in Ochiltree County. Perryton is located in the
northeast Texas Panhandle. Perryton currently has over eight thousand citizens
in the Perryton ISD. Well known sporting personalities who come from Perryton
include Seattle baseball manager Mike Hargrove. Perryton came about when
two nearby communities where bypassed by the railroad. They jointly moved
their locations and set up a new town which they called Perryton next to
the tracks. Due to it agricultural heritage Perryton is often referred to
as the Wheatheart of the Nation. Perryton economy has been boosted when
oil was discovered. A similar economic upturn occurred when gas fields were
installed. Many archeological digs in Perryton have unearthed artifacts
and evidence of past Perryton dwellers. These Indian ruins extend for miles
of Wolf Creek Valley in Perryton.
