Pecos is the county seat of Reeves County. Pecos stands on
the west of the Pecos River bank. Pecos is adjacent to Interstate 20 and
US Highways 285 and 80. Pecos is found in the Chihuahuan Desert. Pecos is
reported to have been host to the first ever Rodeo competition in 1883.
Pecos has an estimated ten thousand residents who live within the Pecos
Barstow Toyah Independent School District. The West of Pecos Museum has
information pertaining to Pecos heritage and in particular Cantaloupe, Cactus
and Cowboys and is located in downtown Pecos. The Pecos Maxey Park and Zoo
are popular attractions.
