Orange is the county seat of Orange County in East Texas.
Orange is adjacent to the Sabine River. Orange provides a deep water port
to the Gulf of Mexico. Orange has had two previous names. Firstly it was
called Greens Buff and then Madisonville before finally it finally became
Orange. In the 1800's Orange relied on lumber to boost its economy aided
by the geographic location of Orange in relation to the Gulf Coast and with
the Port of Orange. During both World Wars Port of Orange played its part
in ship building. In 1946 Orange was a location for a naval base which closed
about thirty years ago. The destroyer USS Orleck is berthed in the Port
of Orange undergoing restoration. Many chemical industries are now located
in Orange.
