Odem is in San Patricio County. Odem has over three thousand
residents in the Odem Edroy Independent School District. Odem is about fourteen
miles northwest from the city of Corpus Christi. Odem was formed in 1907
as a railway stopping point. Odem got its name in respect of San Patricio
Sheriff Mr. David Odem. In 1909 Odem Post Office was constructed and Odem
developed as a center for trading. Odem was incorporated in 1929. At this
time the Odem economy relied on agriculture. Much of the agriculture in
Odem was devoted to the growing of vegetables. In 1930 oil was struck near
Odem boosting local economy.
