Nacogdoches is in Nacogdoches County in East Texas. Nacogdoches
got its name from a group of Caddo Indians. Nacogdoches was one of the chief's
sons and the city of Nacogdoches is named in respect for him. Nacogdoches
stands on an old trade route on the El Camino real. The people in Nacogdoches
constructed a stone fortification and this was instrumental in three conflicts
to create a Republic of Texas almost a century ago. Nacogdoches is rightly
proud of its heritage and many tourists visit Nacogdoches annually. Another
popular Nacogdoches event held usually in March is the Nacogdoches Azalea
Trail. This special event has attracted many people to Nacogdoches to explore
and sample its scenery and floral exhibitions.
