Moran is in Shackelford County. Moran is a small community of two hundred and fifty people in the Moran ISD. Moran is just over on hundred miles from Dallas Fort Worth. Moran is about thirty miles from Abilene.
Moran had two previous names, firstly in was called Hulltown and secondly in 1891 it was given the title Hicks before finally becoming Moran in 1892. The city of Moran got its name from Mr. John J. Moran a railway employee. Moran is many for agriculture and has many ranches. The Moran Museum has many artifacts and historical heritage information about Moran past events.
