Manor is in north eastern Travis County. The city of Manor
stands next to US Highway 290. Manor is conveniently positioned just over
eleven miles from the city of Austin. Manor has over a thousand residents
who are in the Manor Independent School District. Manor was used by the
film industry for the location of the movie What's Eating Gilbert Grape.
Manor got its name in 1870 from its first postmaster Mr. James Manor. In
1885 the railroad brought more economic stability to Manor with this rail
link. Manor was incorporated as the city of Manor in 1932. There are at
least two golf courses in the Manor area including Shadow Glen and Blue
Bonnett Golf courses.
