Lubbock is the county seat of Lubbock County. Lubbock has
a growing number of residents and current estimation is over two hundred
thousand. Lubbock derived it name from Col.T.S. Lubbock who was instrumental
in the establishment and development of the Texas Rangers. The city of Lubbock
was formed from the merging of two smaller communities Old Lubbock and a
town called Monterey. Lubbock was the chosen name but the location was to
be in Monterey. Some Lubbock buildings were hauled to the new site by use
of rollers. Lubbock hit the new headlines in the fifties when strange objects
were captured on film above Lubbock. Many theories were put forward but
no conclusive findings to satisfy the Lubbock people who witnessed this
sighting. Lubbock has many higher education facilities and many medical
and healthcare institutions are based in Lubbock.
