Lake Jackson is in Southern Brazoria County. Houston is about
fifty minute drive north from Lake Jackson. Currently Lake Jackson has over
twenty seven thousand people living in this planned community that was constructed
in 1942. Lake Jackson in 1944 following incorporation became the city of
Lake Jackson. A century before this Mr. Abner Jackson was developing his
Lake Jackson Plantation and sugar refinery. Much of the Lake Jackson refinery
was flattened in the hurricane of 1900 that had left such a devastating
trail of havoc in Galveston. Air links to Lake Jackson can be accessed through
the Brazoria County Airport. Lake Theatre in downtown Lake Jackson provides
a wide and varied program of performances and concerts. Outdoor enthusiasts
visiting Lake Jackson will appreciate the facilities on offer at nearby
Brazos Bend State Park. Many Lake Jackson visitors enjoy fishing in the
gulf coast in Brazosport. Lake Jackson area also attracts birders as over
three hundred varieties can be observed locally.
