La Porte is in east Harris County. La Porte is often referred to as the
Gateway to Galveston Bay. Houston is about a forty minute drive from La
Porte. La Porte was incorporated as the city of La Porte in 1892. La Porte
has played an important part in Texas history. In 1836 La Porte was the
scene of the Texas Revolution Battle of San Jacinto. The outcome from this
battle in La Porte saw the establishment of the Republic of Texas and in
gaining its independence from Mexico. Deer Park in La Porte has a commemoration
monument of the San Jacinto Battle. Place to visit in La Porte include the
Sylvan Beach Park which has a playground and Pier. This La Porte facility
has been the focal point for visitors to La Porte for over one hundred years.
The sylvan Hotel in La Porte was constructed in 1893 to provide accommodation
to the thousands of La Porte visitors.
