La Marque is in Galveston County. La Marque has good road
links as it stands on Interstate 45 and State Highway 3. La Marque is translated
from 'the mark' in French it was also called Highlands but had to have a
new name as another town had the same name and so La Marque was selected..
La Marque stands on the Highland bayou. At one stage La Marque was about
to become annexed to Texas City so the La Marque residents who wanted to
prevent this from happening voted successfully and La Marque was incorporated
as the city of La Marque in 1953. Attractions in La Marque include the Gulf
Greyhound Track. The La Marque area has a very high concentration of medical
health care organizations and hospitals.
