Kountze is the county seat of Hardin County. Beaumont is twenty
six miles southeast of Kountze. Houston is seventy four miles southwest
from Kountze. The city of Kountze sits on US Highways 287 and 69 and on
State Highway 326. Kountze got its name in respect for the Kountze brothers
who were associated with the Sabine & East Texas Railway. Kountze was
established primarily as a community supplying lumber as it is enveloped
by the Big Thicket National Preserve. Kountze has much to offer visitors
for it has an abundance of waterways such as Village Creek and Neches River
as well as vast forests. Kountze has both a State Park and a National Park
to enjoy and explore. Kountze has many miles of walking trails. The Kountze
Chamber of Commerce is located in Kountze Library Building
