Katy was first settled in 1872 and a community developed called
Cane Island. This community became the town of Katy in 1895 and got its
name from the M K T Railway. Katy was incorporated as the city of Katy in
1945. The economy in Katy relies heavily on the gas fields that are found
in and around Katy. The Katy Heritage group have undertaken to restore and
exhibit significant historic Katy buildings these include the MKT Katy Depot
which now stands in Katy City Park along side the Caboose. Katy also provides
visitors with a walking guide complete with useful and informative markers
that illustrate the colorful heritage of downtown Katy.
