Jacksonville is in Cherokee County in East Texas. Jacksonville
is on US Highway 69. Jacksonville got its name from local doctor Dr. William
Jackson in 1850. Jacksonville is home to the junior colleges of Lon Morris
College and Jacksonville College. Jacksonville hosts an annual Tomato Fest
which reflects the fact that Jacksonville is a prolific producer of tomatoes
within the US. Nichols Green Park provides a hundred and fifty acres of
parkland to Jacksonville and has many nature trails and outdoor activities.
Situated just four miles from downtown Jacksonville is Lake Jacksonville
with over twenty five miles of shoreline. Lake Jacksonville is a haven for
fishing, boating and camping.
