| Houston came into existence shortly after the conclusion of
the War for Independence in Texas. The Allen brothers were instrumental
in the founding of Houston in 1836. War hero Gen Samuel Houston was the
inspiration for Houston namesake. Transport links are vital to all economies
and Houston is no exception to this rule. Houston has the George Bush Intercontinental
Airport IAH, Ellington Field EFD and William P. Hobby Airport HOU. The Port
of Houston further strengthens Houston and its booming economic growth.

Gras making this huge function a must visit event for over a quarter of
a million people. Another ongoing annual Houston event is the Chevron Houston
Marathon usually held early in the year and celebrating over 35 years of
successful marathons. If shopping is on your list of activities then many
Houston visitors head for The Galleria with almost four hundred shops to
explore. The Houston Ballet popular with both Houston residents and Houston
visitors presents a varied program. Popular with families is the widely
acclaimed Houston Zoo.
