Groves is located with Jefferson County. The friendly Groves
community has over 16,000 residents. The city slogan says Watch Groves Grow.
Groves is situated between Port Neeches and Port Arthur. Groves got its
name from a local settler called Mr. Asa Groves. Local folklore tells how
a group of Groves rice farmers tried to drill for water but were disappointed
after discovering only oil on the land. Not realizing the value of their
discovery they dismantled the drilling rig and went to find water elsewhere
without further developing their oil find. Groves is home to the annual
Texas event - the Pecan Festival. Visitor attractions in the Groves locality
include the nearby Lake Sabine. Groves offers both fresh water fishing and
salt water fishing.
