Gainesville is in Cooke County. Dallas is just sixty six miles
south of Gainesville on Interstate 35. In 1844 the fist settlers arrived
in Gainesville. The town of Gainesville got its name from General Edmund
Pendleton Gaines. In 1872 Gainesville was incorporated and saw increased
economic growth when five years later the Gainesville - Henrietta - Western
Railroad was built. Gainesville is home to the North Central College of
Texas. The Morton Museum in Gainesville has exhibits depicting the pioneering
heritage and natural history of Gainesville and its surrounding areas. Famous
sporting residents of Gainesville include Frank Buck and Charles Paddock
1920 Olympians.
