The city of Franklin is in Robertson County. Austin is about ninety miles southwest from Franklin. Currently Franklin has over 2000 residents served by the Franklin Independent School District. Franklin is situated in the Clay pan area within east central Texas. Franklin is adjacent to the Missouri Pacific Railway and has road links on US Highway 79. Franklin was previously called Morgan but the name had to be altered as there was already another town with that name and so the name Franklin was chosen. Franklin saw its first community develop in 1872. Franklin was incorporated in 1970.
