| Fort Worth was established when a fort was built here in 1849
and it was given the name of Fort Worth in honor of General W. J. Worth.
The building of Fort Worth was in order to give protection to settlers but
no one at this time could imagine that today Fort Worth would represent
one of the most dynamic and fastest growing cities in the US. Even today
Fort Worth is best described as a 'Cowtown with Class'. The Cultural District
in Fort Worth has 4 excellent Museums to visit as well as the Fort Worth
Botanic Gardens. This Fort Worth area is also home to an Equestrian Center.
Sundance Square in Downtown Fort Worth offers visitors a huge selection
of shopping and entertainment opportunities in a unique setting - it was
named for Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. The sympathetic restoration
of the 100 year old buildings and imaginative landscaping has helped to
produce a wonderful setting for the many Fort Worth restaurants, hotels,
theatres, multi screen cinemas and many shops. The Stockyards area in Fort
Worth is found on Exchange Ave E. and just west of North Main Street is
another major attraction for visitors as is home to Billy Bob's the famous
Fort Worth honky tonk. Other Fort Worth features in this area include the
Stockyards Hotel once used by Bonnie and Clyde and the Cowtown Coliseum
home of Rodeos and colorful Western Shows. Stockyards Station in Fort Worth
is the perfect setting to see the Tarantula Steam Train.
