Dallas is only 25 miles north from Ennis on Interstate 35.
Ennis first saw its first settlers in 1872. Ennis adopted its city charter
in 1913. The current number of Ennis residents now exceeds 19,000. The name
of Ennis was taken from a former Director of the Houston & Texas Central
Railway who was called Mr. Cornelius Ennis. There are recreational activities
to occupy visitors to Ennis and these include the Czechoslovakia Museum
which reflects the heritage of Czech settlers in Ennis. The Ennis Country
Club has a restaurant and golf course. No visit to Ennis would be complete
without a visit to the 1800 acre site that includes Lake Bardwell where
many water based activities are on offer.
