Durango is in Western Falls County. Marlin is fourteen miles
northeast of Durango on Farm Road 935. Durango was previously called West
Falls but was changed when a cowhand who had too much to drink thought he
was still in Durango in Mexico. In 1892 the San Antonio and Aransas Pass
Railway was built near to Durango. This caused some Durango settlers to
move their homes away from Durango to relocate nearer to the railroad tracks.
In 1885 a school was established in Durango. The post office in Durango
closed in 1906 and in 1949 the Durango School combined with Lott Independent
School District.
