The City of DeSoto is in Southern Dallas County and is one
of the oldest towns in North Texas. DeSoto currently has an estimated 48,000
residents. It was called DeSoto after a local doctor who settled in this
area Dr. Thomas Hernando DeSoto Stewart. DeSoto was incorporatd as the city
of DeSoto in 1949. The DeSoto Arts Commission has established many theatrical
performances throughout the year and recent performances included the DeSoto
Citizens' Gospel Concert. DeSoto is served by the DeSoto ISD. Private Universities
in the DeSoto area include Dallas Baptist University and Southern Methodist
University.
