Decatur is in Wise County at the point where highways 287
and 380 intersect. Dallas Fort Worth is 40 miles Southeast of Decatur and
about a 45 minute drive from DFW Airport. Alliance Airport is only about
25 minutes away from Decatur. The Heritage Museum for Wise County is housed
in Decatur Baptist College. Decatur is named in honor of Commodore Stephen
Decatur Jr. who was a war hero in the Barbary Wars in the early 1800's.
Decatur was previously called Taylorsville. A prominent feature in Decatur
is the telecommunication mast - Service Television Broadcasting Tower Decatur.
