Comfort saw its first settlers many from Germany in 1845. Many of them traveled
from New Braunfels and they gave the site the name Camp Comfort due to the
fact that it was such a pleasant location and had such pure clean water.
Eventually the name Camp Comfort was shortened to Comfort. Comfort is part
of Kendall County. Comfort has over 3000 residents. San Antonio is 51 miles
northeast of Comfort. Many buildings still survive today in Comfort and
a heritage medallion marks the site of the old Comfort Theatre. Comfort
is a destination for many campers in the summer months who like to fish
and swim. In the Autumn and winter months many people come to Comfort to
hunt.
