Cisco is home to the very first Hilton Hotel owned by Conrad
Hilton who went on to establish the Hilton chain of hotels throughout the
world. The city of Cisco is in Eastland County. Cisco has over 4,500 residents.
Cisco is home to Cisco Junior College and is served by the Cisco Independent
School District. A previous settlement on the land now occupied by Cisco
was called Red Gap a name reflecting perhaps the red clay found nearby.
When the Texas and Pacific Railroad by-passed Red Gap the settlement went
into sharp decline. Years later the Central Texas Railway came into this
part of Texas and built a line that intersected these tracks and so Cisco
was established. Cisco got its name from John J Cisco a baker who had gained
finance for the building of the railroad. Cisco quickly became an important
transport hub. At this time Cisco was the only rail intersection which was
west of Fort Worth.
