The city of Childress is on Highway 83 which is a direct route from Canada
to Mexico. Amarillo is 115 miles northwest of Childress. It is 107 miles
from Childress to Wichita Falls. Childress is named after Mr G. C. Childress
who was a well known attorney and the author of the Texas Declaration
of Independence. The city of Childress became the county seat of Childress
County in Texas when the two communities of Childress and Henry combined
in the 1876. All the residents of Childress moved to nearby Henry and
the Town was renamed Childress City
