Canyon in the Texas Panhandle gets its name from the nearby
Palo Duro Canyon and was incorporated as the city of Canyon in 1906. Canyon
is home to the West Texas A&M University offering graduate / undergraduate
degree courses. Amarillo is 16 miles from Canyon. Lubbock is 105 miles from
Canyon. Canyon has much to offer visitors including Texas' Largest History
Museum - The Panhandle plains Historical Museum and the Palo Duro Canyon
State Park which has been described as the 'Grand Canyon of Texas and obviously
where Canyon gets its name from.
