Burnet the county seat of Burnet County lies on the edge of the Texas
Hill Country. Burnet was initially the location of a frontier fort in
1884. The city of Burnet stands on land between the Colorado and Brazos
River watersheds. Burnet was previously called Hamilton but as there was
another town in Texas called Hamilton the name had to be changed and so
the name Burnet was selected. Burnet was incorporated as the city of Burnet
in 1850's. Austin is less than 50 miles from Burnet to the southeast.
Local places of interest in the Burnet area include the Highland Lakes,
Burnet Square, Longhorn Cavern and the State Park. Burnet is often referred
to as the Highland Lakes Jewel.
