Bonham in Fannin County, Texas was the home of the late Sam Rayburn who
was a former Speaker of the House. Dallas is seventy miles southwest from
Bonham. Paris is thirty five miles east of Bonham. The city of Bonham
was named in honor of the Alamo hero James Butler Bonham although it was
previously known as Bois D'Arc. Bonham was reported to have been one of
the earliest cities in Texas to have an electric light service. In 1890
Catron Electric was constructed in Bonham. Bonham was used in the second
world war as a site for a POW camp, some evidence of this camp can still
be found in Bonham today. To the north of Bonham lies Lake Bonham which
provides a 1300 acre recreation facility. The outdoor pastimes at Lake
