Bishop is in Nueces County. The city of Bishop was established
in 1910 when F Z Bishop bought farmland and started to develop it. Kingsville
is less than seven miles from Bishop. Corpus Christi is just thirty miles
from Bishop to the northeast. Bishop had great insight into how the town
should evolve and was instrumental in setting out its infra-structure and
also providing the city of Bishop with a name. Bishop was fortunate in 1945
when the Celanese Corp. opened its Bishop Plant when it moved into the chemical
industry, the Bishop plant was built adjacent to Highway 77 to the south
of Bishop.
