Aransas Pass is located some 12 miles from Rockport. It is
18 miles from Corpus Christi to Aransas Pass. 1909 saw the founding of Aransas
Pass following a great land lottery. Aransas Pass was the home port to almost
300 shrimp boats providing shrimp to San Antonio. The first people to live
in Aransas Pass were the Karankawa Indians and in 1848 Aransas Pass saw
settlers moving in and setting up home. Many references of Aransas Pass
history exist as "Where Sails Meet Rails". In 1914 Aransas Pass
had a long slogan that read " The City of Certainty, Where the Sails
Meet the Rails" it was around this time that many predictions were
made concerning Aransas Pass and Ingleside tipped to become the next Houston.
