Abilene is a town rich in Texas history and home to some 120,000. Abilene
is often referred to as 'The Hub of the Texas Midwest'. The city of Abilene
is located in Taylor County - in fact Abilene is the county seat of Taylor.
Abilene has three universities and home to the Dyess Air Force Base. The
traditional heritage of the Texas Frontier and the old West are still
alive and more than evident in Abilene and it offers a friendly West Texas
welcome with genuine Abilene hospitality. Abilene lies off Interstate
20, exit 292 on the east and off 279 on the west. The railroad appears
to cut the town into two halves with downtown Abilene on the northern
side of the track. Located almost in the center of Texas Abilene is 150
miles west of Dallas Fort Worth. Abilene offers a wide selection of hotel
accommodation and restaurants. The city of Abilene has long been a popular
vacation destination for travelers from both home and abroad.
